Many moons ago memory speeds and timings were the realm of the serious overclocker. But time has moved on, now with the aid of XMPs (eXtreme Memory Profile) overclocking your memory and setting those tight timings should be far easier.
But will that memory speed mean anything to the gaming enthusiast, will those timings show real world benefits, step up the RipjawX 2133MHz memory from G.Skill.

I guess the key question to answer is, would I buy this memory? Well it’s good memory, but I don’t see myself upgrading my existing XMS3 for this in the near future. Having said that I could definitely see myself buying this memory for a new build. After all the difference in price between the RipjawX memory and the XMS3 is only about £20, and what can you get for that nowadays? I think for the knowledge of having faster memory and therefore more memory bandwidth should I need it in the future would convince me to spend that extra £20. The problems I had with crashes to Desktop, were probably caused by an under voltage, caused by my BIOS seemingly ignoring my configuration, until I got the Intel XTU involved. This is no fault of the memory, so that fact won’t be taken into account when providing a verdict, but it is definitely an interesting issue to stumble across. Read Terry’s full review… |

So great looking memory at a great price that performs very well, outperforming my existing G.Skill RipjawsX 1600MHz by some margin. I also had no issues during install or setup and the memory performed flawlessly during all of the benchmarks and during over a week of testing. There is a debate that can be had as to whther the memory will show any real performnce increase during gaming, but for me the knowledge that the extra bandwidth (shown in 3DMark 11) is there if needed is enough for me to want it in my rig. So the red hot coloured G.Skill RipjawsX are matched with great performance too, performing perfectly during the week long review period. The fact that I have also been able to overclock my machine to even greater heights is just the icing on the cake for what is already a great product. Read Greg’s full review… |
Final Verdict
The 4GB G.Skill RipjawsX have really impressed the pcGameware team, with great looks, great performance and a good price G.Skill have a winner on their hands here. We were all impressed with the performance advantage shown in 3DMark 11, although it was more difficult to quantify in our game tests, but the increase in performance was obviously there when needed.
The quality and appearance of the RipjawsX also won all of us over, we even all agreed that the price was pretty good too. Terry had some fun setting the memory up on his gaming rig but luckily XMP (eXtreme Memory Profiles) came to the rescue. As far as James is concerned the RipjawsX may well have found a new home, in his gaming rig! The only real debate was whether 4GB was enough for today’s Gaming Rig, check out Greg’s review for more on that subject…
So if your looking for 4GB of high performance memory, great looks and don’t want to spend a fortune we think the G.Skill RipjawsX should be at the top of your shopping list!
