    Just wanted to point out that several people (myself included) are having problems with the Kone [+] scroll wheel. 🙁 Something to consider if you’re thinking about buying this mouse.

      Thanks for that, I have had the mouse for a few weeks now (it’s had about 1 month use) and no real issues in game! Currently running software/firmware (version V1.44 / FW1.39). Will keep an eye on it and report back here if I spot any thing odd…

    I bought this mouse at the end of September 2011 and after upgrading to driver v1.48 and Firmware v1.43 immediately after purchase everything was fine. All LED, Roccat Talk and button functions worked and the scroll wheel worked flawlessly.

    However, in the last few months the scroll wheel has started to play up. When scrolling up or down the mouse sometimes scrolls in the opposite direction briefly before correcting itself and scrolling in the right direction. The problem got worse and worse until I seriously considered throwing it away. Essentially the scroll wheel stopped being usable. Of the two “fixes”, one made things slightly better for literally about 5 minutes (blowing air into the gaps around the scroll wheel) and the other wasn’t something I wanted to try with a mouse this expensive (spraying WD40 into the scroll wheel). There are many videos on YouTube showing the glitch in action.

    Thankfully Roccat listened to their customers and at the end of October 2011 released a new driver/firmware pack (Driver v1.49 / Firmware v1.45) that so far has fixed the problem:
    http://www.roccat.org/Support/Gaming-Mice/ROCCAT-Kone-/

    The release notes are:
    – Optimized scroll wheel behavior
    – Minor bug fixes

    It’s now March 2012 so I expect lots of people have found this fix already but I can confirm that the scroll wheel glitch is fixed. My Kone[+] was experiencing the issue immediately before I upgraded and immediately after the upgrade I have been unable to reproduce the issue despite trying hard.

    I would recommend this driver/firmware combo to everyone experiencing this issue.

    @Andy Minor

    UPDATE: The issue has come back. It looks like WD-40 is the next step.

    I couldn’t recommend one of these mice. Too many people have experienced the same issue with the scroll wheel.

      Have you tried to get an RMA via the Vendor or ROCCAT?

    @James
    Not yet but I’ve seen many comments that the replacement mice also fail. My conclusion is that this is either a manufacturing fault or a design fault. If it’s a manufacturing fault then a replacement might work OK. If it’s a design fault then there’s no hope but WD-40 or else to buy something good.

      I think it’s only fair that you give the manufacturer a chance to solve the issues you are having, although this may not fix the problem it should be your first port of call, as the product is well within warranty…

    I got round to emailing them yesterday. Roccat Support responded to my support request to tell me that they suspect a hardware fault and that I should contact the retailer. No replacements are available through Roccat.

    I rather suspect my retailer will need the original packaging which, of course, I recycled about two months ago!

    I’m not impressed by the service at Roccat.

    @Andy Minor

    I’ve just checked Amazon and they’ll accept a return within 30 days as long as it’s not been opened.

    Is that even legal in the UK?

  1. No trackbacks yet.
