MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC Review
Overview
We’ve tested many components here at pcGameware, but this is the first time we’ve tested a complete PC. It’s the first time we’ve tested an All In One PC also…
The MSI AG2712 All In One Gaming PC is, as one would expect an All in One (AIO) PC targeted at Gamers, so I’m guessing this thing should be right up our street! The PC consists of a Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3630QM (Quad Core with Hyperthreading) CPU, with 12 GB 1333Mhz memory, an Nvidia Geforce 670MX, a 128GB SSD with a 1TB HDD. The MSI AG2712 ships with Windows 8 64Bit and the PC also features wireless (802.11 B/G/N) connectivity and a Blu-Ray DVD drive.
All of this hardware powers a glass fronted 27″ display with a resolution of 1920×1080, and in addition to this the screen is also touch sensitive, although this is an option. The MSI AG2712 does not ship with Keyboard and mouse as MSI feel that most Gamers like to choose their own Gaming peripherals (I agree!).
The MSI AG2712 comes in a somewhat massive box with the now famous GAMING dragon adorned on the front. There’s very little else on the front of the box another than a Fnatic logo, depicting their endorsement.
The back of the box actually shows an image of the MSI AG2712 AIO itself, although to be fair this can hardly be seen, I’ll guess we have to wait to we get inside…
On the side of the box we see a small white sticker that gives us some idea of what lies within…
In the box other than the AG2712 itself we find a box of accessories and the following paperwork.

First Impressions
First impressions of the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC are extremely good, there’s no denying that this is a thing of beauty, simple and elegant in its design (I’m sure my pictures don’t do it justice, soz). There’s nothing to assemble either, just snap the stand into position and your ready to go…
I particularly like the glass front 27″ inch screen, although I appreciated this isn’t for everyone, due to possible reflection issues. The glass allows for a much richer colour depth than screens coated with an anti-glare coating. The base of the display features a mesh area that house’s a stereo speaker setup and below this is a section of perspex giving the impression that the screen almost floats on the desktop. At the top of the display we find a webcam (with LED indicator) and a microphone.
In the bottom right corner of the screen we have a few stickers that give some idea of the power housed within this ultra sleek design, although I have to say it’s pretty heavy at 15kg.
At the back of the AG2712 we find a plethora of inputs and outputs (see below), an adjustable stand and some cooling vents.
The MSI AG2712 AIO features a nifty stand made primarily from Perspex, this stand allows the screen to be positioned at various set positions (13 degrees & 45 degrees), with the first option being a more screen/monitor style and the latter being a more tablet style.
As I mentioned earlier, at the back of the MSI AG2712 we find a whole host of inputs and outputs, these are detailed below:
On the right side of the PC we find a Blu-Ray drive, on the left we find the main control buttons and LED indicators. In addition to this there’s a couple of additional USB 3.0 ports (one of which supports MSI’s Super Charging functionality) an SD card reader and the main power input socket. It’s worth noting that the power cable itself is the only cable provided with the MSI AG2712 and is all you’ll need if you hook up via a wireless keyboard/mouse, very tidy!
Overall great first impressions from the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC, if it performas as good as it looks…
Testing Methodology/Setup
After some initial testing with Windows 8, Windows 7 Home 64 Bit was installed as this allows us to make comparisons to all of our other benchmarks. For testing purposes all of the drivers used were found on the CD provided.
As the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC is labelled such , I put the AG2712 through our normal set of benchmarks to see how well it performed. In addition to this I also found that I was able to easily overclock the Nvidia GTX 670MX (massively! ;)), so those scores are also shown below. I was not able to overclock the CPOU or the RAM as the BIOS seemed to be cut-down/limited.

The first set of results from the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC are far from impressive, but one mustn’t forget that we are not dealing with a desktop GPU here, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 670MX is a mobile GPU and is more often found in laptops et al.
The overclocked results are far better and the overclock achieved on the Geforce GTX 670MX is nothing short of amazing; performance as a whole is up by over 33% (up to 45% in the Unigine Valley test), impressive stuff! And it managed this while keeping the GPU below 65 degrees Celsius too! My concern here is that some/most miss out of this level of performance due to their reluctance to overclock. But one also needs to bear in mind that far better performance can be had from a desktop costing half the price!
Of course to some degree I am missing the point here, as the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC isn’t really competing against desktops as it’s a far different beast, although I’m unsure what beast it really is, and to some degree what it’s even competing against…
While gaming with Blacklight Retribution (online high speed FPS) some degree of lag was also noticeable, I never felt that the screen itself was quite able to keep up. This may be compounded by the touch-screen aspect of the AG2712, but this is optional of course, so could be left out if so desired. Although I’m unsure whether this would eradicate the issue completely and is also something the casual gamer may not be too bothered by…
Final Thoughts
There’s no doubt that the MSI AG2712 All In One Gaming PC is a great piece of kit! As an All In One it offers a host of features, from the beautiful 27″ touch screen to the TV tuner, from the elegant design to the SSD & HDD storage setup.
The MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC is also a thing of beauty, everything about its design is slick and sleek, and of a high quality. There’s no doubt that this, the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC is a High End product.
But when it comes to the Gaming performance of this Gaming orientated AIO the waters start to get a little murky. Performance out of the box (not overclocked) is poor compared to a modern desktop costing half the price, but then the MSI AG2712 isn’t a desktop! Performance compared to a modern Gaming laptop is also a little poor due to the Nvidia Geforce 670MX GPU used (I think a least a 680MX or even some of the newer 7 series mobile parts could/should have been used), but then the MSI AG2712 isn’t a laptop either!
Hmm, this is difficult as I’m now unsure what to compare it too!
Taking the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC as a PC in its own right is probably the best way to look at it. The MSI AG2712 is a good piece of kit, if you’re looking for an AIO and want the ability to play some of the latest games, while having the ability to watch TV, Video Call, surf the web, even with a touch screen, should you wish, then maybe the MSI AG2712 All in One Gaming PC is what you’re looking for, but it’s not an AIO for the hardcore Gamer and it’s certainly not cheap either. But I have to admit I still do rather like it…
